Whilst rolling mists curtailed temperatures at times others had bright skies and consequent warmth. Successful tactics ranged from small cdc dries fished on full floaters through to drifted buzzers, pulled sedges and suspended shammies.

Buzzers though still predominantly olive also featured the wicked white-a nod to the fact that some resident species develop noticeable white wing buds just before adulthood.

Black spiders tempted a few of those remembering the recent black gnat falls but emergers in green or brown were generally better bets during a rise. Hares ear Shipmans buzzers are becoming go-to flies during the evening rise though good results were also had with klinkhamer-style emergers too.

The lake olives that have spiced up events of late will soon be replaced by their smaller cousin the pond olive. Try hares ear shuttlecocks on 18s to imitate the emergers.

The eastern pegs on the Doxford lake can provide excellent sport if the behaviour of the imitation appears natural.
